ECHO Cordless Blower (58V): Tool Review

ECHO currently offers various 58V cordless power tools, one of them being the ECHO 58V Blower 550 CFM (model: CPLB-58V2AH). In this detailed review, we will examine the tool and rate it based on four sets of criteria: (1) Performance, (2) Ergonomics, (3) Battery & Charging Technology, and (4) Scope of Delivery & Price. The article will then continue with an overview of the leaf blower’s technical data, followed by a summary of ECHO’s company history.

I. ECHO Cordless Blower 58V 550 CFM – Review

Utilizing a jet fan design and a 58 Volt lithium-ion battery, ECHO created a powerful electric blower with a couple of premium specifications. The ECHO cordless leaf blower reaches an airspeed of approximately 145 miles per hour (mph) with an air volume of 550 cubic feet per meter (cfm).

When the blowers turbo mode is activated, it increases its air volume by 28%, proving itself to be a capable and useful tool for the typical homeowners landscaping needs. On average, it runs for more than 60 minutes when set on low speed and around 20 minutes when on high.

Priced similarly to other brands, ECHO offers one of the best warranties for outdoor performance equipment. With this cordless leaf blower, you receive a 5-year consumer warranty and 2-year commercial warranty

1. Performance

echo-58v-cordless-blower-review The ECHO cordless leaf blower is a high performance power tool, reaching a maximum air velocity of 145 mph and clearing range of 550 cfm. The design features a turbo button for an increase in power, reaching the maximum cfm and providing a 28% boost in the air volume. You can easily use it on leaves, sand, and small gravel on the pavement. However you’ll have trouble when on grass – just like most electric blowers. The variable speed trigger allows you to control the power, while the cruise control makes it easy and convenient to use.

With the smallest battery pack (2.0 ampere hours (ah), you can get about 15 to 20 minutes of use when on the highest speed setting. The lowest setting can keep the battery running for well over 45 minutes. If you stay in turbo mode, it will cut your running time to less than 10 minutes.

The brushless motor provides superior performance, compared to other brands, when coupled with the jet fan design and battery pack. The jet fans reduce the air friction to allow for a greater surge in air power. Together, these features lead to an overall reduction of noise and vibration, never exceeding 62 decibel (db(a)) and making it more comfortable to hold while clearing your yard. Even though battery-powered blowers are much quieter than gas-powered ones, you should still wear ear protection when using them.

2. Ergonomics

The 58V ECHO cordless blower weighs about 8.5 pounds with the battery pack. This is a rather higher weight for a battery-operated leaf blower. The battery sits in the back, though, creating a more balanced and easy-to-hold tool. The body is plastic and makes for an uncomfortable handle. It doesn’t have any hand mold or grip to it, and it’s fairly large, although there is some texture on the very bottom to prevent sliding. The cruise control switch allows your hand to rest when using the blower over an extended period. However it can be challenging to move positions with just your thumb. The blower also features a metal wear ring at its end to prevent the tube from scraping against the ground.

3. Battery- & charging technology

Battery technology:

The 2.0 ah lithium-ion 58V battery generates a maximum of 550 cfm. The runtime depends on what settings you use during use. The turbo setting will last barely over five minutes, while the lowest could get you nearly an hour of use. The battery is designed to prevent overcharging, overheating, and overloading. The ECHO cordless blower can also be paired with a 4.0 ah battery. This increases the high speed usage to 25 to 30 minutes.

Charging technology:

The 2.0 ah battery takes about 30 minutes to reload. You can purchase the blower with or without the charger. Built using ECHO’s innovative charging technology, this charger protects and extends the battery’s life. You can also use it with the 4.0 ah lithium-ion battery, which takes roughly an hour to reach full recharge.

Compatibility with other 58V devices from ECHO:

In comparison to other manufacturers with huge ranges of power tools, for example Black + Decker, Dewalt and Ryobi, ECHO only offers a few other cordless outdoor power equipment compatible with the 58V battery packs and charger. You can for example add these four other devices to your tool shed: the string trimmer, lawnmower, hedge trimmer, and chainsaw. They are all part of ECHO’s 58V collection.

4. Scope of delivery & price

You can purchase the blower with the battery included or without the battery. You can either buy from ECHO’s website or via other sites, which might offer cheaper rates, as for example amazon.com. This price tag of the ECHO cordless blower is decent considering other competitors reach an equal threshold with machines that offer less power. As stated in the introduction of this article, with this purchase, you also receive a 5-year consumer warranty and a 2-year commercial warranty, far better than other companies who only offer 3 years.

Kobalt Cordless Blower (40V): Tool Review & Comparison

From our research, Kobalt has three different 40V blowers on the market. These are the 100MPH-, 110MPH- and 125MPH Kobalt cordless electric leaf blowers. In this article, you will find an overview of them. We start with a detailed review of the Kobalt 100MPH cordless blower in the first chapter. Thus, we examine the tool considering the following four criteria: (1) performance, (2) ergonomics, (3) technology, (4) delivery scope and price. Afterwards, we present two other Kobalt 40V blowers (Kobalt 100MPH and 125MPH) and highlight their differences in chapter 2. We will also present to you the most important features and specifications of the tool in chapter 3.

I. Kobalt 110MPH Cordless Blower – Review

The Kobalt 40V cordless blower is powered by a 40V lithium-ion battery which is available with different capacities (starting from 2,0 ampere hours (ah)). The leaf blower generates an air volume of 480 cfm. Hence it can be used for clearing leaves and debris without much noise. Even though the air speed is relatively low with 110 mph, it is enough for estates with small gardens.

The tool features an axial fan engine that helps to deliver sufficient power and performance. Furthermore, it has a variable speed trigger and turbo button. The speed trigger allows to control the amount of power you need to blow leaves off hard surfaces. The turbo button helps to reduce or amplify the power.

Usually, the 40V blower from Kobalt is available as a tool only. That means it comes without the 40V MAX lithium-ion battery and charger, so you would need to purchase both items separately. Our recommendation is always to buy the original batteries and chargers from Kobalt, even though you find stores that sell other 40V lithium-ion batteries that are compatible with the Kobalt leaf blower.

1. Performance

kobalt-40v-cordless-blower-review Don’t be deceived by the relatively low air speed of the Kobalt 40V cordless leaf blower. At 110MPH, it flows at a maximum air flow capacity of 480 cubic feet per minute (cfm). This volume of air makes up for the low air speed and ensures that the power tool moves trapped leaves and debris with ease. As stated earlier in the introduction of this review article, the power tool features an axial fan engine, a turbo button as well as a variable speed trigger for controlling the speed level.

Pull the trigger if you need a little amount of air for dry leaves and debris or give it a full pull if you need a huge blast of air for wet as well as trapped leaves. It also has a cruise control feature that allows you to choose constant power for long stretches. A handy turbo button lets you amplify the power when it is required. The 40V battery’s runtime for every use depends on the speed levels you select.

2. Ergonomics

The Kobalt axial leaf blower weighs 7.04 pounds (without the 40V battery). Though it weighs more than some other 40V leaf blowers, such as the Worx WG584, it is still fairly lightweight and easy to handle. The Kobalt 40V leaf blower has a good weight distribution, which also makes it comfortable to handle.

3. Battery- & charging technology

The Kobalt 480CFM cordless electric leaf blower runs with 40V lithium-ion batteries with capacities between 2.0 and 5.0 ah. The total battery runtime depends on how intense you use the blower. The lithium battery also features a LED charge level indicator so you can easily read the charging status while working with the Kobalt 40V leaf blower. The 3.0 ah battery can last for almost 40 minutes of runtime when it is fully charged. It takes up to 1 hour to get a charge of the battery.

4. Scope of delivery & price

The Kobalt 110MPH cordless blower and its accessories are offered at a fair price. On Amazon we even found the complete set which consists of the tool, a battery and charger. However, if you have other Kobalt tools like the Kobalt 40V MAX Lithium-ion chainsaw and mower, you can make use of your existing 40V battery and charger.

II. Other Kobalt 40V Cordless Blowers

Kobalt 100MPH Cordless Blower: The blower delivers an air velocity of 100 mph and 350 cfm to facilitate easy removal of leaves. The tool features an electric push button, eliminating the need for cords. This makes it easy and fast to work with. As for the Kobalt 110MPH cordless blower, you can easily squeeze the trigger to get variable speed. The cruise control allows you to maintain a constant output.

Kobalt 125MPH Cordless Blower: If you are looking for an electric-powered leaf blower with a long runtime, look no further than Kobalt 125 MPH 40V cordless leaf blower. Compared to other Kobalt 40V cordless blowers, you get up to 55 minutes of runtime from this model. This handheld leaf blower delivers a maximum speed of 125 miles per hour and has a peak air-flow of 690 cubic feet per minute. Though it cannot compete with commercial leaf blowers, it clears off the debris and any evidence of lawn trimmings and mowing almost effortlessly. If you encounter stubborn foliage, you can press the turbo button to get it off.

I. Greenworks Cordless Leaf Blower 130 CFM – Review

The Greenworks cordless blower 24252VT is designed to offer a user-friendly device that is easy to maneuver and control. Apart from cleaning leaves off the lawn, this excellent gadget will also help you clean debris and leaves from hard surfaces like driveways or patios. At just a push of a button, you are good to go. You can also vary the speed as per the need and its performance will exceed your expectations.

Another key aspect worth mentioning is that this leaf blower works well with all 40V Greenworks batteries.
You can buy a couple of back-up batteries to extend run time in case you want to clean a big yard. For a 1/2- acre yard, Greenworks 40V gadget works great and the best part is that it needs absolutely no maintenance.

1. Performance

Greenworks 40V Cordless Blower 24252 is equipped with a heavy-duty variable-speed motor with a max speed of 150 mph. It is one of the premium models manufactured by the Greenworks brand, which is ideal for warding off the leaves from flat, hard, and bumpy surfaces. Using the variable speed motor, Greenworks has made this machine to deliver excellent performance. You will love using it. It also comes with a wind speed control feature to regular the blower as per your requirements. Greenworks 24252 model works at full speed for 15 minutes on high power in a single charge. This device does use up a lot of power on high mode. However, at low speed, you can expect a high run time.

With the cordless design and lightweight structure, you can expect the best possible performance from this blower. Plus, the motor equipped in this machine is brushless, which generates higher torque and power. This also ensures longevity. The gadget with extension tube helps to remove debris from difficult to reach corners, around joints, and between bricks. To get the best possible performance, we highly recommend everyone customize the speed settings as per your needs.

2. Ergonomics

greenworks-cordless-leaf-blower-review When it comes to comfort, ergonomics, and design, you will probably thank Greenworks for developing such an easy-to-handle machine. From changing the speed to charging this leaf blower or wipe cleaning the gadget, it requires minimal effort. This cordless machine does not restrict your movement while blowing away leaves from your backyard. As the controls and speed settings are placed on the tip, there are fewer chances of choking fumes. Plus, the speed dial button is right below your thumb, which allows you to control the speed as and when needed.

Greenworks 24252 leaf blower weighs 3.5 lbs without the battery. As this machine is lightweight and you can use it single-handedly, and cleaning the backyard becomes easy. Moreover, since its handle has a comfortable grip, it allows you to hold this leaf blower for longer firmly. Plus, the overmold grip decreases the higher vibration occurring from this machine when operated at full speed. Above all, there is a turbo button on the speed dial button’s side, which increases the speed by 10-20 mph depending on the battery level. In our opinion, don’t use the turbo button daily as it is for hard cleaning jobs. Therefore, Greenworks has undoubtedly made this machine with an ergonomic design and smart controls.

3. Battery- & charging technology

Battery technology

greenworks-cordless-blower-review-technology As per the product’s specifications, this machine is equipped with a heavy-duty 40V 2Ah lithium battery, which is entirely different from the nickel-cadmium battery you see in some other leaf blowers. In addition, the Greenworks model 24252 can of course also be used with all other 40V batteries from Greenworks. However, the 40V batteries from Greenworks with 40V blowers from other manufacturers.

The battery delivers the best possible power until the last minute without any lag or cutoffs. As a result, you can expect the best potential from this leaf blower. With a 2h battery, this machine can work at full speed for 15 minutes. On the contrary, you can use the Greenworks 24252 with low or medium speed for a longer time. You get 3 Year Limited Tool & Battery Warranty.

WORX Cordless Leaf Blower Review (40V)

In contrast to other tool manufacturers who offer two or even more 40V cordless blowers, WORX „only“ has one battery operated blower in its 40V product range: the WORX 40V blower WG 584. In our review article, we will analyze the most important characteristics of the tool in chapter 1. Thereby we take into consideration the four review categories 1) Performance, 2) Ergonomics, 3) Battery & charging technology as well as 4) Scope of delivery & price. Afterwards, you will find a table summarizing all discussed functional and technical data of the WORX 40V blower in the second chapter. Final chapter 3 provides a short overview of the company’s history.

I. WORX 40V Blower WG 584 – Review

The WORX cordless leaf blower WG 584 is characterized by its high-efficient, brushless motor design as well as its easy handling. This combination makes the battery leaf blower from WORX a top competitor amongst other well-known, international brands, as for example Black + Decker, Dewalt or Makita. The Turbine Technology of the WORX 40V blower, paired with the speed control feature ensures adaptability to any given job. Quick and short burst can clear dry leaves and small twigs. Controlled blasts take care of damp leaves and residue.

The WORX leaf blower is operated with two dual 20V Max batteries which power up for 40V total performance. A major advantage is the companies Power Share battery platform. 1. Performance: 8/10

worx-cordless-leaf-blower-review With its brushless motor with a no load speed of 14.300 – 21.900 RPM, the WORX cordless blower boasts an impressive air volume from 300 cfm to up to 470 cfm at 60 to 95 mph. As a result the tool is more than capable of keeping your lawn, porch and gutters clean of leaves as well as debris.

The WORX 40V blower also comes with three speed settings controlled via the speed control function easily reached with the thumb of the operating hand. On the first setting of the speed control function you can reach an air velocity of 60 mph and an air volume of 300 cfm. Using the two higher settings will get you up to an air speed of 69 mph respectively 85 mph. In addition to the three standard settings the turbo boost can be activated to ensure maximum air propulsion. On this setting, the air speed goes up to 95 mph and air volume up to 470 cfm.

2. Ergonomics: 10/10

worx-cordless-blower-review-ergonomics The cordless leaf blower from WORX weighs 5.5 lbs (standalone). The weight of the complete kit, including two 20V batteries with a capacity of 2 ampere hours (ah), is around 7.3 lbs making it a bit lighter than other leaf blowers of the 40V category. Additionally, the WORX 40V blower has an ergonomic design. You can easily hold it in one hand – but be sure to firmly hold it with both hands when initially turning it on.

And the tool comes with even more features. Firstly, the large dial for changing the settings is easily reached and can be flipped while operating the blower. Secondly, the design and weight distribution is balanced sparing your writs from excessive strain. Thirdly, for convenience of storing and cleaning, the turbine nozzle can be removed by pressing the clip on the side of the nozzle. Furthermore, the top noise level of the WORX cordless leaf blower WG 584 is only at 62 decibel, which is a less than the noise level of comparable 40V battery blowers, for example the Ryobi 40V Jet Fan Blower or the Oregon Cordless Leaf Blower BL 300. The Greenworks leaf blower 24252 is the only 40V blower we found during our analysis which is even quieter.

3. Battery- & charging technology: 9/10

Battery technology:

worx-cordless-blower-battery-technology The WORX 40V blower is operated with two 20V batteries in parallel in order to unleash full 40V power. Any WORK 20V lithium-ion Power Share battery can be used, incl. batteries that have different capacities of ampere hours. The ampere hour rating measures how much energy can be stored in the battery. In total, WORX offers three 20V batteries with capacities of 2 ah, 4 ah and 6 ah. However, according to our understanding the WORX blower WG 584 can only be operated with the 2- and 4 ah batteries, but not with the 6 ah battery.

The runtime of the batteries included in the standard package (2 x 2 ah) is between only 10 minutes, when using the highest setting continuously and 16 minutes when using the lowest setting without break. If you use, for example, a 4.0 Ah battery, the run times are nearly double. This may not sound like much time, but from a user’s perspective, it’s rare to use the highest setting for more than a minute.

Please also take into consideration that all 2x20V power tools from WORX are designed to run with two 20V batteries. For highest performance both batteries should be of the same ah rating as and fully charged. The WORX 2x20V power tools, incl. the WORX 40V blower WG 584, will not work if just one 20V battery is installed.

Charging technology:

It takes between 3 and 5 hours to fully charge the batteries with the standard charger depending on the battery capacity. However, using a WORX dual charger will reduce the charging time to one or two hours. Since two batteries are needed to operate the WORX 40V blower, a dual-port (standard or quick charger) can make a great addition to the household. However, please take into consideration that the charging times mentioned above refer to the charging of one single battery with the dual port. If two batteries are charged in parallel, charging times go up to 2 hours (for two 2ah batteries) and more,

Ryobi Cordless Blower: Tool Review & Comparison

Ryobi is a reputed company that offers advanced systems of cordless leaf blowers with innovative features so as to let the customers enjoy complete versatility. The Japanese Cooperation offers a wide range of tools, chargers, and batteries that are easy to use and boast of useful features. Overall, Ryobi has 7 different battery blowers on offer. In chapter 1, we will introduce the four 40V blowers to you. Afterwards we will present the three remaining 18V devices in chapter 2. The article continues with an overview of the most important tool features and characteristics in chapter 3. The fourth chapter contains a short summary of the history of Ryobi.

I. Ryobi 40V Leaf Blowers

Ryobi currently lists four different 40V devices on its website, among them three handheld blowers and one backpack blower. In addition, some older models are still offered for sale on different platforms. This article provides an overview of all available Ryobi jet fan blowers of the 40V category. We start this chapter with a detailed review of the Ryobi 40V blower 500 CFM (model: RY40460). Thereby, we examine the tool considering the following four criteria: (1) performance, (2) ergonomics, (3) technology, (4) delivery scope and price. Afterwards we present three more handheld blowers (Ryobi cordless blower RY40480, RY40470 and the older RY40402) as well as the Ryobi Backpack Blower 40V RY40440.

Ryobi 40V Blower 500 CFM (RY40460) – Review

With a highly developed design powered by a 40 volt lithium-ion battery, the Ryobi jet fan blower RY40460 performs any clearing job with ease. Its outstanding feature is for sure the provision of gasoline-like power, while still having all the advantages of a battery-operated solution.

The Ryobi 40V leaf blower comes with an air volume of 500 cubic feet per meter (cfm) and an air speed of approximately 110 miles per hour (mph). Therefore, it is ideally suited for wet and tramped leaves as well as other surfaces which are difficult to process.

All in all, Ryobis’ device is one of the strongest 40V cordless blowers we have found so far. However, it’s not only about power. The blower has other positive characteristics in many ways. For example, a pretty attractive price and a 5 year limited warranty (more information on manufacturers homepage).

1. Performance: 9/10

The Ryobi cordless blower is a truly powerful tool which brings it to a maximum air velocity of around 110 mph and air volume of 500 cfm. The blower features a variable speed trigger. If you need a little air, just pull the trigger a bit. If you need the full blast, pull the trigger all the way. By adapting this functionality intelligently, that means always using just as much power as necessary, you can significantly increase the total battery runtime. Logically, the lithium-ion battery takes less energy at lower speed levels.

In addition to the variable speed trigger, the Ryobi cordless leaf blower also features a turbo button, which is helpful when processing tramped debris, which can’t be blown away regularly.

2. Ergonomics: 8/10

Including a battery pack, the Ryobi 40V blower 500 CFM weighs more than 10 pounds. Thus, the solution locates around the midfield compared to other battery leaf blowers. Not easy and not heavy. However the blower has a pretty good weight distribution and is therefore easy and comfortably to handle.

The Ryobi jet fan blower has an ergonomic design. The battery is located at the end of the device, which gives you an excellent balance. A newly designed soft-grip handle, that lies comfortably in the hand, makes leaf blowing even more convenient. As you can see from the product image, the soft-grip of the device is completely pulled.

The sound pressure level of the Ryobi cordless blower is 68 decibels (db) when operating the device at full power. However, the level decreases when reducing air speed via the variable trigger. Nevertheless, the Ryobi jet fan blower is louder than other 40V leaf blowers, for example the Oregon BL300, the WORX WG 584 or the Greenworks 40V blower 130 CFM

3. Battery- & charging technology: 9/10

Battery technology:

The Ryobi 40V blower 500 CFM can be run with five different 40V lithium-ion batteries with capacities between 2.0- and 7.5 ampere hours (Ah). The two largest Ryobi 40V battery packs have an energy storage capacity of 240 respectively 300 watt hours (Wh). Generally speaking, the more Wh a battery has the higher is its maximum runtime. Nevertheless, total runtime does not only depend on the size of the battery pack, but also on how users work with the blower.

All batteries feature a LED charge level indicator, that allows to comfortably read the charging status while working with the Ryobi 40V leaf blower. And that’s not the only positive aspect about the battery’s exterior design, as the lithium pack also has a rubber lining in order to prevent the battery from any damage.

Charging technology:

Ryobi has a 40V lithium-ion charger to refill the battery with energy. The charging time for the compact pack (2.0 Ah) is about 30 minutes. A full charge of the higher capacity packs (3.0 Ah – 7.5 Ah) takes up to max. 75 minutes.

You can also either use the Ryobi 40V Lithium-Ion 2-In-1 USB/Battery Charger or the 18V ONE+/40V Dual Platform Charger to re-charge the Ryobi 40V battery packs introduced above. The platform charger allows parallel charging of a Ryobi 40V and 18V battery by using only a single device.

Compatibility with other 40V devices from Ryobi:

The Japanese tool manufacturer has a huge versatility of 40V battery-powered devices besides the Ryobi cordless blower. All of them work with the Ryobi 40V battery platform presented above. In contrast to many other manufacturers, Ryobi does not only offer „standard“ tools such as regular cordless hedge or lawn trimmers, but also rather rare devices, e.g. a battery-powered snow blower.

4. Scope of delivery & price: 9/10

The Ryobi 40V blower 500 CFM as well as its accessories can be found in the middle segment in terms of price. On Amazon, you can either buy the complete kit, consisting of the tool, a battery pack and a charger, or you can select the components individually. Prices in the internet usually vary from day to day. Hence it’s definitely worth a look at what is most beneficial at the date of purchase.

Other Ryobi 40V Leaf Blowers

Ryobi Cordless Blower 40V (RY40402)

The Ryobi jet fan blower RY40402 is an older model which is not even listed on Ryobi’s website anymore, but still offered on various e-commerce platforms, such as Amazon. As you can see from the product image, the grip of the blower is only pulled to around 60%. This design feature allows the user a greater flexibility.

The blower has an air velocity of 155 mph and an air volume of 300 cfm. If you need an even stronger performance, you can take the tube off the device. The disassembly of the nozzle supports the bundling of air jet, which increases the generated air pressure.

If you run the Ryobi cordless leaf blower constantly at full speed, you will achieve runtimes of approx. 20 minutes with the 2.0 Ah battery and around 40 minutes with the 5.0 Ah pack. Run times of the larger batteries are correspondingly longer.

The device weighs 8.9 lbs without the battery. The noise level of the blower is at 73 db(a); the Ryobi cordless blower RY40402 is significantly louder than all other and newer Ryobi devices which we introduced in this report.

Ryobi Cordless Blower 40V (RY40480 and RY40470)

As with the Ryobi cordless blower RY40402, the grip of the two newer models RY40480 and RY40470 is not pulled completely, but only to around 60%. However, huge differences between the tools exist in context of power, weight as well as noise level.

The Ryobi RY40470 and RY40480 have an air speed of 125- respectively 110 mph, which is less than the maximum air speed of the previously presented Ryobi jet fan blower RY40402. However, the air volume of the newer models is much higher. The two tools bring it to an maximum air volume of 550- respectively 525 cfm. Additionally, the Ryobi RY40470 as well RY40480 have a lower noise level than the RY40402. For example, the maximum noise level of the Ryobi 40V leaf blower RY40470 is only at 59 db(a).

On the other hand, the Ryobi RY40470 and RY40480 are also a bit heavier than the previously presented models. The Ryobi cordless blower RY40470 weighs 9.7 lbs and the RY40480 weighs 9.4 lbs.

Ryobi Backpack Blower 40V (RY40440)

In contrast to the handheld blowers introduced in the previous chapters, the Ryobi RY40440 is a backpack blower. Both the tool engine as well as the lithium-ion battery are located in the backpack, as the product image shows. Backpack leaf blowers are traditionally used by semi-professional users as well as in the commercial- or public sector (landscaping, industrial cleaning, street cleaning, etc.).

The Ryobi backpack blower 40V is by far the most powerful among all 40V blowers from Ryobi. The maximum air speed is an impressive 145 mph and the maximum air volume is at 625 cfm. Like the other 40V blowers presented above, the Ryobi backpack blower also has a variable speed trigger and a turbo button. With the 7.5 Ah battery, it can be used for about half an hour at a time.

An outstanding feature of the Ryobi 40V leaf blower is its very low noise level of only 59 db(a) max. However, we have to rate the heavy weight of the Ryobi backpack blower as a disadvantage. The total weight (incl. battery pack) is up to 21.2 lbs. This makes the solution more than twice as heavy as the handheld blowers presented above, e.g. the Ryobi 40V Blower 500 CFM.

II. Ryobi 18V Leaf Blowers

RYOBI 18 Volt ONE+ System is immensely popular among customers as it delivers a lot more when compared to other products on the market. The three 18V leaf blowers, which we will present in this chapter, are part of this system. We begin by discussing the Ryobi jet fan blower 18V 280 CFM in detail, before we provide a short overview of the Ryobi 18V 200 CFM sweeper and Ryobi 18V 410 CFM brushless jet fan blower.

Ryobi Jet Fan Blower 18V 280 CFM – Review

Let us find out what makes the Ryobi 18V 280 CFM jet fan blower so popular. Generally, the Ryobi 18V leaf blower works well in small areas, especially when you need to reach those tight spots. The 18V solution is easy to set up and run and ideal for home use. Get rid of debris, old mulch, and leaves with this powerful model that features a jet fan design that offers an impressive speed of 100 mph to create an airflow capacity of 280 cfm. You can enjoy greater control because of the variable speed trigger.

The Ryobi cordless blower weighs only 4.5 lbs (including the lithium-ion battery) and is therefore easy to use. Additionally, the hanging hook allows simple storage. The tool runs with a 18V One+ lithium-ion battery pack. The batteries are available with different capacities (from 1.5 to 6 ah). Runtimes vary depending on the battery size you chose. Due to its low noise level of only 65 decibel, you also won’t annoy any neighbors.

1. Performance

As already stated in the introduction of this chapter, the 18 V battery blower from Ryobi has a maximum air speed of 100 mph and an airflow capacity of 280 cfm. The new model offers twice the power and 50 % more run-time compared to the previous version. In addition, the fan blower has other performance features that make it worth checking out. For example, its jet fan technology offers improved airflow to support efficiency. Furthermore you can have complete control on the tool as it has a variable speed trigger.

2. Ergonomics

The 18V blower from Ryobi is a lightweight tool that weighs just 3.5 lbs. Including a 18V battery pack the weight of the solution goes up to 4.5 lbs. Due to its low weight as well as its good balance, the Ryobi cordless blower is pretty easy to handle. Furthermore, its ergonomically shaped trigger can fit most hands and is easy to control. It is very comfortable to hold the device because of the soft-grip handle. As stated earlier, the 18V blower has a low noise design (65 decibels only). It is even slightly quieter than the 18V leaf blowers from Black and Decker (LSW 321) and Makita (BUB 182).

3. Battery- & charging technology

Battery technology:

Usually, the product includes a 18 volt high capacity lithium battery as well as a charger. The 18V batteries are available in six different sizes. The smallest battery pack has a capacity of 1.5 ah whereas the largest pack has a capacity of 6 ah. The other packs have a capacity of 2-, 3-, 4- respectively 5 ah. The compact lithium-ion batteries carry much more power than traditional Ni-Cd batteries. As the battery comes packed with a protective casing, it is also safeguarded against any damage. Lithium-ion batteries from Ryobi are typically covered under a three-year limited warranty.

Charging technology:

All six 18V lithium-ion battery packs presented above can either be charged with pure 18V charging systems or a 18V/40V dual charge platform. It takes a bit more than one hour to recharge the 6 ah battery pack when using a Ryobi 18V fast charger. The smallest 1.5 ah pack can be charged in less than 30 minutes.

Compatibility with other 18V devices from Ryobi:

Ryobi’s One+ system comprises a range of 18 volt power tools that can be powered from the 18V batteries and charger systems presented above. Thus, when you buy your 18V jet fan blower, battery, and charger, you can add other 18V compatible tools as you need them, such as trimmers, drills, radios, paint sprayers, and more.

4. Scope of delivery & price

The Ryobi 18V blower as well as the batteries and chargers presented above are reasonably priced and easy to order online, for example on Amazon. Usually, the blower is offered in a set together with at least one battery and a charger. As explained before, you can set up the leaf blower within minutes and start using it right away.

Oregon Cordless Leaf Blower: Tool Review & Comparison

In total, three battery powered leaf blowers are offered under the Oregon brand. This article gives you a comprehensive overview of the devices. In the following chapter, we will introduce the Oregon cordless leaf blower BL300 – the only blower operated with 40V batteries. Subsequently, we will introduce the Oregon backpack blower BL120VX as well as the handheld blower BLH120VX, which both belong to the 120V Professional Series from Oregon, in chapter two. The third chapter of this review contains a summary of the most important data of the three blowers presented. In chapter 4, we will provide you with some background regarding the company history of Oregon.

I. Oregon 40V Leaf Blowers

As mentioned above, Oregon offers one 40V battery operated leaf blower. In the following paragraphs, we will introduce the Oregon cordless leaf blower BL300 in detail. We will look into the performance and usability of the device, available technology (battery- and charging solutions) as well as acquisition cost.

Oregon Cordless Blower 40V BL300 – Review

Whether you are already a semi-professional user or an ambitious beginner, the Oregon cordless blower 40V BL300 will make the grade. It has a very strong motor just as a gasoline blower, but still provides all the benefits of a battery powered device, such as a reduced noise level and low tool weight.

One of its major benefits is definitely its high performance. However the Oregon BL300 is not only very powerful, but also has many other advantages. Moreover, power isn’t the only important criterion to consider when making a buying decision. It’s always a good idea to consider all aspects when deciding upon the right tool for your project.

1. Performance: 10/10

oregon-cordless-blower-review The Oregon BL300 has a very strong brushless motor and optimized fan to maximize the output of the blower. It’s truly a high performance tool, which is not only suitable for private home owners, but also for commercial and professional use.

The power of the device can be either controlled with a variable speed trigger or the turbo boost can be applied. If you use the variable trigger, you can reach an air velocity of 102 miles per hour (mph) and air volume of 400 cubic feet per meter (cfm). Using the turbo button will run the device with a maximum speed of 132 mph and generate a volume of up to 507 cfm.

The combination of a variable speed trigger and a turbo button guarantees highest possible flexibility for operators. On the one hand the trigger can be used when long run times or on-demand power is needed. On the other hand the turbo button gives you the additional performance needed to move the really tough yard debris.

2. Ergonomics: 9/10

oregon-cordless-blower-review-ergonomics The Oregon cordless blower weights 6.2 pounds (standalone). The weight of the complete kit, i.e. incl. a battery pack, can go up to 9 pounds depending on the battery size (between 1.7 and 2.9 pounds). Altogether, the Oregon solution was by far the lightest, which we analyzed during our annual 40V leaf blower reviews.

In addition to its relatively low weight, the Oregon BL300 has a very ergonomic design. The device does not only rest comfortably in the hand, because of its well-designed soft grip and extralarge buttons, but also due the tools’ eminent balance, meaning that the blower doesn’t annoyingly tilt forward or backward at all. Another nice ergonomic feature is that the air tube can be removed from the engine, which might save some storage space.

When using the variable speed trigger at high the Oregon blower has a noise level of 60.8 decibel. The noise level goes up to 64.6 decibel when applying the turbo button. According to the manufacturer’s website, noise levels were tested per ANSI B175.2 bystander sound pressure. In this context, it is important to note that the Oregon BL300 had one of the lower noise levels of the 40V blowers reviewed, for example in comparison with the Ryobi jet fan blower. However, the 40V device from WORX and the Greenworks 40V blower (model 24252) were even quieter.

3. Battery- & charging technology: 9/10

Battery technology:

oregon-cordless-blower-review-technology The Oregon blower can be operated with three different 40V lithium-ion batteries which have capacities of 1.25 ampere hours (Ah), 2.4 Ah and 4.0 Ah. Taking into consideration the nominal voltage of 36 volts, this is equivalent to an energy storage of 45 watt hours (wh), 86,4 Wh and 144 Wh per battery (whereas one unit of energy corresponds to one watt of power expended for one hour of time).

The actual runtime of the battery pack depends on two factors. Firstly the size of the battery, i.e. how much energy can be stored. Secondly, the way you use the cordless leaf blower. Let’s take the biggest battery, the 4.0 Ah pack, as an example: If you use the variable speed trigger, you can work up to 90 minutes with the blower as long as you run it at low power. If the speed trigger is fully pressed, the runtime will be around 15 minutes only. And if you exclusively use the power boost, runtime will be even less than 10 minutes. However from a user’s perspective, it’s rather seldom that you need the power boost for more than 2 or 3 minutes without a break.

Logically, the smaller battery packs with 1.25 Ah and 2.4 Ah last less than the 4.0 Ah battery. We recommend to buy the biggest pack, if you need to run your cordless leaf blower at high speed. Please also be aware that the power button doesn’t work with the 1.25 Ah battery pack at all.

Charging technology:

All batteries can be either recharged with a standard battery charger (C600) or a fast charger (C750). You can recharge the batteries in 30 minutes (1.25 and 2.4 Ah battery) to 60 minutes (4.0 Ah battery) with a fast charger. It takes double the time or longer if you use the standard charger. For example, it takes around 4 hours to fully charge the 4.0 Ah battery pack with the C600.

Compatibility with other 40V devices from Oregon:

The just presented batteries and chargers can’t only be used in combination with the Oregon BL300, but also with many other 40V battery tools from Oregon, as for example pole saw, hedge trimmer, edger, chain saw.

4. Scope of delivery & price: 10/10

Potential buyers will find Oregon tools and products in the higher price segment. Quality simply has its price. You have the option to either buy the tool only (for example if you already possess Oregon batteries) or to purchase the full package (for example including a 4.0 Ah battery and a rapid charger). Usually you achieve lower component prices if you buy the complete kit.

II. Oregon 120V Leaf Blowers

In addition to the 40V blower presented in the article above, Oregon offers two further cordless leaf blowers belonging to the Oregon 120V Professional Series. On the one hand, the Oregon handheld blower BLH120VX is ideal for performing „quick jobs“, according to the manufacturer’s specification. On the other hand, the Oregon backpack blower BL120VX is perfectly suited for noise-sensitive areas due to its remarkably low noise level. In the following sections, we will introduce the two cordless leaf blowers on a 120V basis in more detail.

Oregon Handheld Blower BLH120VX

The Oregon handheld blower BLH120VX can be considered as the „big brother“ of the previously presented Oregon BL300. Although the tool coloring is different, both leaf blowers are similar in terms of construction. Even the tool weight is more or less comparable. However, there is a big difference between the Oregon BLH120VX and the 40V solution: the location of the battery pack. With the Oregon cordless leaf blower BL300, the 40V battery is simply plugged into the device. In contrast, the 120V battery which is used to run the Oregon handheld blower BLH120VX, is carried in a backpack. The connection between the backpack and the tool is made using a stick-tool cable.

Oregon provides two 120V battery packs for operation. Both 120V batteries are larger and therefore much heavier than the formerly introduced 40V batteries. The smaller of the two 120V batteries already weighs 10.9 lbs. The larger battery weighs 14 lbs. However, the 120V packs are not only heavier, but also have larger capacities (6- respectively 9 ah) and are therefore able to provide more energy (648- respectively 972 wh).

Consequently, the Oregon handheld blower has a remarkably strong performance. Similar to the the Oregon BL300, the 120V cordless leaf blower has a variable speed trigger and two different modes (stealth mode and high output mode). Using the high output mode, the maximum air volume is 530 cfm and the maximum air velocity goes up to 166 mph. With the larger battery pack, runtimes vary between 60 and 90 minutes depending on the set speed.

Another advantage of the Oregon handheld blower BLH120VX is its reduced noise level, which fluctuates between 54- and 56 db(A) only. In comparison, the noise level of the Oregon cordless leaf blower BL300 might go up to 65 db(A).

Oregon Backpack Blower BL120VX

In contrast to the previously introduced handheld blower, which is connected to the backpack through a cable, the Oregon backpack blower BL120VX is a fully integrated solution. The engine as well as the battery pack are both located in the backpack. The blowpipe is directly connected as well. As the handheld blower, the Oregon BL120VX has two different modes. By setting the mode on „high output“, the air volume goes up to 526 cfm and air velocity exceeds 200 mph. According to the manufacturers website, the backpack blower outperforms all mid-range gas blowers with its 22 Newton (N) blow force rating.

The Oregon backpack blower BL120VX is not only very powerful, but with a noise level of less than 60 db(A) also pretty quiet and suitable for residential areas. The drawback of Oregons 120V backpack solution is its high weight. The power tool already weighs 20.5 lbs standalone. Including the battery pack, the total weight of the solution increases even further.
